PHOTO EVIDENCE; Mike Sonko clears hospital bill for Raila supporters who were detained in a Migori hospital
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday, November 2 cleared hospital bills of six of Raila Odinga's supporters who had been detained in St. Joseph Omboo Mission Hospital in Migori county.
This comes as TUKO.co.ke reported on the plight of another ardent supporter of the Opposition chief appealed for assistance to clear his medical bill after he was also detained at a private hospital in Homa Bay County.
Emmanuel Konduto, a father of three, needs over KSh79,000 so that he can be allowed to leave St. Paul’s Mission Hospital. A boy who was hit by a bullet during NASA demos who was rescued from hospital detention by Mike Sonko.
Like him, the six who had been detained at St. Joseph Omboo Mission Hospital had bullet wounds after they were shot by police during recent protests called by Raila Odinga's NASA. Sonko heard their plea and wired a total of KSh264, 341 to the hospital to let them free. Sonko, also gave each of them KSh10,000 to cater for their personal needs after being discharged.
They were among 15 other NASA supporters who were rushed to the hospital for treatment following the violent protests in the county. In the runner up to the August 8 elections, Odinga vowed he would resign as president — should he have won — if Sonko won the Nairobi governorship. Sonko beat Odinga's ally, the then Governor Evans Kidero, in the hotly contested race.
At the moment, Odinga has told his supporters to boycott any service provided by entities associated to the Jubilee administration leaders as he protests his presidential loss. He has also promised to frustrate the Jubilee administration until a fresh election is called within 90 days in which he hopes to win the presidency.
