Former US President Barack Obama and UN boss António Guterres are among the high key guests invited for the swearing-in ceremony of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The event organisers have invited heads of state from around the globe including Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat who is also the Commonwealth chairperson.
According to the Star, the Foreign Affairs ministry has revealed that they sent invitation letters to all the AU heads of state and that guests will start streaming in on Monday ahead of the Tuesday event at Kasarani.

“A blanket invitation has been sent out to all heads of State from Africa and other parts of the world. As of now, it’s difficult to tell who will attend, but as a tradition, most of those under the AU will be present,” the source said.
Speaking to journalists after touring Kasarani Stadium, organising chairman of the committee Joseph Irungu said many diplomats are expected in Nairobi for the occasion.
“It is a little early to come to who exactly will attend, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is handling the invitation,” Irungu said.
